Friday Letters

Dear Chad:
Thank you for being AMAZING. Simply put, you make my life easier, happier, more exciting and all around better. Yesterday, you worked all day, took us shopping, looked at houses, cooked us dinner, gave me a head massage AND did the dishes. Really? How did I deserve you? I love you.

Dear Cameron:
You are simply the cutest baby I have ever seen in my entire life. Your cheeks, your dimple, your squinty eyes...they all make my heart melt. You love to cuddle in the mornings lately, and I just eat it up (it makes me rush around to get ready for work, but it's so worth it to get those 20 minutes with you). You hate being changed or dressed and wiggle around until we are done...this is very challenging, my love. But we laugh the whole way through...you  make our lives complete. I love you.

Dear Spring:
HI! It is so nice to see you. Will you please stick around until summer gets here? I am OVER winter.

Dear Airline Passangers:
We will have a 10 month old on a plane for 6 hours. I am sorry. That is all.

Dear April Vacation:
I can't wait until you're here. I need a break.

Dear Arbonne:
Thank you for providing us with another income. We need you!

That's all for now...thanks for listening and HAPPY WEEKEND!!

xoxo

Spring Fashion

Why is it that every time a new season rolls around, I can never find anything to wear? What in the world did I wear last year? (Well, last year, I was pregnant, so I have a good excuse!!)

This spring, I am lusting over mint, orange, stripes, dresses and flats...check it out!

I am loving this entire outfit from The GAP: mint skinnies, a printed top, orange sweater and flats! Perfect!!

Nothing quite says spring like a navy striped dress...just add a cardigan and it will be my go-to spring outfit!

No spring (or summer) outfit would be complete without my trust Sperry's or Rainbows...I love being able to pull those out of storage!

Spring Bucket List

Spring is officially starting in just a few days, but we are supposed to get 6-10 inches of snow tomorrow...seriously? I am over it! I just want to go for walks, go to the park, not wear 14 layers of clothing...

So, in the spirit of the season to come, here's my Spring Bucket List!!

~ Go for a hike

~ House Hunt (minus the snow)

~ Go to Holland (We are going April 27 - May 4)

~ Participate in Maple Syrup Sunday Events

~ Go to a Portland Sea Dogs Game

~ Walk the Boulevard

~ Go to the playground/park and have a picnic

If you live around Southern Maine, there's a great list of things to do in the Spring!

Happy Spring!

xoxo,
Jess

What a Weekend

I am Irish, but I'm not sure how I got this lucky...I get to spend all weekend with my perfect family watching college basketball and celebrating St. Patrick's Day!!

Happy Weekend, Everyone!

Swim Lessons

We started Cam in swim lessons when he was 8 months old because he is so active, that we wanted to give him an outlet. Well, between swim lessons, crawling and jumping, he is worn out on Saturday afternoons.

The swim lessons aren't really teaching him anything yet because the instructor keeps saying, "Remind him to hold his breath, let him practice his kicks..." but, really, we just like being in the water! :)

Watching all of the big kids in the pool

This is after I dunked him under!

Cameron: 8 Months

Cameron Steven,

Holy moses...you are turning into a PERSON. You can move. You can eat. You laugh and smile and talk. A lot. You are patient. But sooo impatient when you want something. You are sweet but active and SUCH a boy. I can't get enough of you! I want time to stop...just for a bit. I love this age so much - it just keeps getting better!

Weight: Somewhere between 17-18 lbs

Diapers: Size 3 during the day and size 4 overnight diapers

Health: You had your first fever on Valentine's Day and were sick all weekend, but it really didn't stop you! You napped a lot more than usual, but your personality was still holding strong! Otherwise, you have been so healthy (knock on wood)! We stopped giving you acid reflux medicine because we think it was causing a rash on your face! Heartburn doesn't seem to bother you anymore (you aren't spitting up anymore) and your rash is gone!

Social: You had a pretty busy February! On Valentine's Day weekend (when you were sick), Liz and Sophia came up to visit! We went to Local 188 for brunch then went home for a little play date. Later in the day, we went to LLBean, but left you at home so you could rest with LouLou. The following weekend, we went down to Kennebunkport to meet Oscar!! He is just two months older than you, but he is a lot bigger! He's letting you borrow some clothes, and they are sooo cute! You guys had such a fun time together!

Toys: You still love anything that lights up or makes noises. You are putting everything in your mouth and LOVE your jumping toys! The exersaucer at day care lets you jump SO high and you will do it for hours!!

Sleep: Luckily, you are sleeping so well that I don't even want to write about it. After your fever in the middle of the month, you developed an attachment anxiety and kept waking up to be held. When you were 100% better, we had to let you CIO for just two nights - 45 minutes the first night (not 45 minutes straight, but in 2-3 minute spurts) then just 10 minutes the next night! Ever since, you have been going down between 7:30/8 and getting up around 6. You average between 2-3 (8:30/9, 11:30/12 and 2:30/3) 40 minute naps a day. If we can stretch your 2nd nap to the afternoon, we can get over an hour.

Food: We let you try anything you can that doesn't have salt/spice on it (which isn't too much)! You like avocado, waffles, pancakes beans, bread, cheerios, Pirate Bootie and baby snacks. They have been trying more food at day care, too, and you take some, but refuse others.

Personality: You love your mom and dad!! When we leave, you get a little cranky. You still don't like strangers (especially when they get in your face) and unfamiliar people, so you tend to hold onto us a little tighter. You are so sweet when you first wake up, but are on. the. go until you go to bed. You do not stop. You are a waving and clapping machine, little boy! You are so proud of yourself. :) You grab everything (which has made grocery shopping exciting) and love to watch people at restaurants and stores.

Bath: It always has been and still is one of your favorite things! I think I said this last month, but it's really time to move you into the big bath! You have pretty much outgrown your whale!

Milestones: Oh my...this was quite a month!! You started crawling, saying Dada and rolling over while we change you. You crawled for the first time on February 23rd while we were visiting Oscar. You had been rocking back and forth on all fours then all of a sudden moved forward...holy cow, we were excited! (I cried.) You hate being changed, so you just roll over. We've had to start double-teaming you to get an outfit on! You say Dada all the time, which is just adorable...when are you gonna say Momma?! :)

No more monthly stickers. No more still shots. You make me work for pictures now!!

These were taken right before swim lessons...more on that later!!

I love you, little man. Thank you for being the very best part of our day. Everyday.

xoxo
Mom

My Funny Valentine

{This post is soooo old, but I just got around to uploading pictures from my camera. Mom fail!}

Now, Chad will always be my #1 Valentine, but this year, we had an super duper cutie on our hands!

P.S. I am obviously not a photographer since there's sun right on his forehead...oops!

Life updates

We have been house hunting for a couple of months and are so incredibly frustrated, that we have stopped. For the most part. I still like to peek at the new listings and wish they could be ours, but we don't want to settle on something right now, so we are waiting until we have a hefty down payment and we find a house we LOVE. {Living in my mom's basement has worked for 16 months...I think we can handle another 8-10!}

Cameron is full-on crawling and sleeping like a ROCK! We just let him go right before bath so he is nice and relaxed, full and tired when he goes to bed. :) It's amazing.

We started swim lessons last Saturday, and Cameron L.O.V.E.D. them! He didn't fuss at all (a couple of babies cried the whole time...I felt so bad!) and only cried when I dunked him under. I think he secretly liked it. ;)

It's restaurant week in Portland, and Chad is guest-"cheffing" (?) at a local restaurant tonight! It will be so fun for him to be in the kitchen again; I'm so excited for him!

We have parent-teacher conferences next week, so I won't be home for an entire night!! Chad will pick up Cam from day care, feed him, bathe him and put him to bed. It makes me so sad to miss even one night of this.

I was involved in an arbitration in December between a former employee and my school district. I was her immediate supervisor for a short period of time (I was a long-term sub for her supervisor), and was called in to testify against her. It sucked, but I am so glad it's over and WE WON! I hate to go against someone, especially when it involves their job and their finances (she was looking for lost pay), but she was one of the most unprofessional and disrespectful people I have ever met.

It's still cold and snowy here in Maine, but I have been wearing some non-winter outfits in hopes of bringing spring sooner...no flip flops yet, but they are just dying to come out of the closet! {P.S. We are supposed to get more snow this weekend...can it stop already?}

I have put myself on a spending freeze. We are trying so hard to pay down/off our debt and save for our trip to Holland, so I am not even letting myself buy a $20 dress at Target. (First world problems) With spring sneaking up on us, all I want to do is go shopping for the three of us, but I will not. I will not. Please don't let me!

I have also completed my 30-day detox and feel AMAZING!! I am starting the Insanity workout program tonight...saying that I am scared is an understatement. I hope I can walk tomorrow...or at least crawl into bed tonight!

That's all for now...I am trying to catch up on pictures of Cameron (including his 8 month update)! He is slowly, but surely, turning into a person...he's not a little baby anymore!

Randomness

Have you heard of Stitch Fix? It's pretty freaking cool...you fill out a fun survey about your style, your "stylist" sends you some pieces in the mail each month, then you decide which pieces you want to keep and send the rest back! I just filled out my survey and realized that I am a very basic, preppy, classic girl, but I do like to mix it up every  now and then! I can't wait to see what my "stylist" sends me!! (P.S. If you sign up through my link, I get $25! Go sign up!) ;)

Cameron is EIGHT MONTHS OLD today...how in the world did that happen? We were just talking about how long he's gotten. He looks like such a person now instead of a little baby. I would like for time to stop now, please!

Chad and I have had TWO date nights in the last week (Thanks, Mom!). We went to the movies last weekend to see Zero Dark Thirty, which was so good! Then, we went to our local hockey team's game on Tuesday. It was so much fun!

And, this...I can't get enough of these two together.

Since Cameron is crawling now, his knees are constantly red. I hear it only gets worse when he gets cruising on the hard wood floors!

This has been happening every night from about 5 - 7. He'll take a bit of food then cry. He'll eat another cheerio then cry. He'll put his pacifier in his mouth and be fine for a few minutes, then want more to eat. We have no clue what he wants! Aren't there baby whisperers anywhere?! ;)

This is what we have been up to lately...nothing too exciting, but I must say that I am loving life.

xoxo
